This morning I met with Fiona, the manager of the Dundee Blind and Partially Sighted Society, to discuss my research. I’m delighted to report that I now have permission to come into the centre to observe the social activities the society runs every week day for its members. These include bingo, craft making, and music.
The meeting also provided me with my first opportunity to examine some physical games designed to be used by people with a visual impairment. What was striking was that they were all conversions of traditional games – large print playing cards, tactile chess, Braille Scrabble etc – which very much reflects the products I have so far found in my initial internet searches for games for blind people.
